1989年6月4日，中國當權者用血腥鎮壓的方法終結了一場波瀾壯闊的民主運動， 這場運動曾經振奮了不少中國人的心，包括一些今天向現政權交心的人。 當年許多人在經歷過40年的專制統治，與及十年文革滅絕人性的政治運動之後，十分浪漫地擁抱他們心中的民主和自由，見到這個由年青人帶領的民主運動，霎時間燃點了對中國可以走向民主的希望。「六四」的血腥鎮壓迅速地熄滅了這個希望，不少人命傷亡亦在許多家庭中留下永恆的傷痛。 過去32年，中共掌權者一直努力淡化「六四」鎮壓的血腥暴力，不斷強調當日天安門廣場沒有死人; 其實在廣場上沒有死人但仍然可以清理廣場上的學生這「事實」，只會顯出當日廣場周邊地區眾多人命傷亡是如何的不必要，更加證明當權者是何等的殘暴不仁。 中共相信的是唯物的意識形態,他們認為的人權只是生存權、發展權，所有道德規範、人文精神，都不是絕對的價值，是形而上的東西，有階級性，為階級利益服務，他們不相信有任何形而上的價值是有普世性的; 中共為著要維持政權，可以不擇手段，無所不用其極地去控制人民的思想和行為，全中國人民都要服從當權者的個人意志，實現當權者的夢想。儘管今天中國經濟民生有巨大的進步，但是政權對人民的監控，藉著現代科技，竟然是中華幾千年歷史以來最嚴厲的．並且與日俱增。 今天不少人慨嘆當年「六四」的年青領袖們，持有十分不成熟的理念，甚或醜陋的人格，但是「六四」已經成為一個追求民主自由的符號，再不是屬於當年的一群人的，而是屬於所有反對專制獨裁、追求民主自由的人。「六四」精神已經超過了一個組織、燭光、靜坐、口號、演說所能承載，它要由這一代的人在世界每一個角落、每一個時刻活出來，「六四」精神也包含苦難和堅持，人類追求民主自由的歷史是長遠而曲折的。香港人正經歷新的「六四」，記念「六四」將我們的經歷縱向和歷史連結，橫向與世界各地追求民主自由的人並肩，向所有專制獨裁的政權説不，叫政權真正尊重保障人民的權利。
