Time really flies. We have migrated from Hong Kong to the US for full 18 years now. I worked here at PhenoPath Laboratories for 13 years. It is now under Quest Diagnostics. I need to find an opportunity to meet Allen Gown and thank him. I wish the opportunity arises sometime this year.
2020 was a tumultuous year for Hong Kong and the World. That was also the Presidential Election year for the US. Many people felt relieved knowing that Trump was not re-elected. However, his battle to overturn the election results has been extremely destructive to the democratic process. The upcoming Jan 6 confirmation of the Electoral College votes by the Congress will be the stunt show by the Trump camp. Unfortunately, there are too many GOP congressmen willing to sacrifice democracy for political gain for the Trump base. I find this action most disgusting and despicable.
There is a difficult road ahead for Biden and those who want to reverse the damage Trump has done. This is particularly so if democrats cannot win the 2 runoff senator elections in Georgia. Chances are high that they may not make it.
I can understand the gulf between GOP and Democrat ideology towards solving this country’s problems. I hope they can at least agree on much of what the country’s problems are. The more immediate issue is to restore the jobs and the economy. The mid-term issues are healthcare and immigration. Of course, there is the immense challenge of foreign policy towards China. What a challenging time is this!
